Bashundhara Special Children Foundation (BSCF), an organisation run by the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has observed World Autism Awareness Day.

BSCF in association with the Bashundhara Tissue observed the day through various programmes on Sunday.

Bashundhara Group Director and Bashundhara Special Children Foundation Chairman Yeasha Sobhan visited BSCF School on the occasion, reports Daily Sun.

Maj (retd) Mohsinul Karim, in-charge of Bashundhara City Development Ltd and BSCF, Shayla Sharmin, headmaster of BSCF, Mohammad Alauddin, head of marketing of Bashundhara Paper Mills Ltd, 300 children with special needs, their guardians and teachers, among others, were present.

Bashundhara Special Children Foundation started its journey on March 1, 2017 as a charity organisation under the initiative of Yeasha Sobhan to educate and integrate children with special needs into mainstream society.

A portion of profit from every box of Bashundhara tissue is spent for the cause of autistic children and school.

Visiting the school, Yeasha Sobhan spent cordial time with children and presented them with Eid gifts.  She also promised to ensure better treatment of the children, establish gymnasium and supply modern educational equipment.

In her address, Yeasha Sobhan said, “The autistic children are very meritorious. Their potentials can be flourished through proper education and training. So, Bashundhara Special Children Foundation has been imparting vocational education, knowledge of daily chores and physical and mental literacy to the children for their better future.”

About further expansion, she said BSCF campus is being constructed on four bighas of land at Bashundhara Residential Area in Baridhara of the capital.

“In addition to campus, we have planned more programmes for the advancement of the autistic children. Having educated and employed properly, these children are expected to contribute to the country’s development,” she said.

Yeasha Sobhan called for concerted effort of all concerned for promotion of the children with special needs and integration into mainstream society.

As a token of recognition of support to special children, BSCF guardian association accorded honorarium crests to Bashundhara Group Vice Chairman Safwan Sobhan and Yeasha Sobhan.

The Autism Awareness Day celebration included an impressive cultural programme performed by the children of the school.
