Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 43 gold bars weighing 5.14 kg worth Tk 3.5 crore from the Agro Bulut border of Benapole in Jashore on Friday night.
Lt Col Tanvir Rahman, Commander of 21 BGB, said they had a prior intelligence report on the transborder gold smuggling.
During a drive, one of the smugglers jumped into the bordering Ichamati River and fled to India, leaving a bag of gold bars.
Another smuggler who did not jump into the river also managed to escape arrest, he added.
