Bangladesh Awami League will launch campaign of the next parliamentary election after completing councils of the central committee and its associate organisations.
In next three months from now, AL will held councils of its central committee, Bangladesh Student League, Mohila Awami League, Jubo Mohila League, Tanti League, Dhaka city north and south committee, along with Councils in 33 districts. Finishing upon these important tasks, it’ll go for fostering political campaign targeting next national election.
The leaders and activists of the party will promote across the country the positive achievements of the government in home and abroad as their goal is to go to power for fourth consecutive times.
More than one leaders of the policy-making forum of the party told The Bangladesh Pratidin they’re not taking BNP’s effort to form alliance with various parties importantly. AL’s main goal is to strengthen the party. So, they want to complete the party Councils from root level to the central within next December.
AL advisory committee member and spokesperson of 14-party allaince Amir Hossain Amu said, “We’re not in tension that BNP is trying to form alliance with different parties. AL believes in the strength of people. Besides, we’re in alliance with some parties that hold the spirit of liberation war. So, we don’t need any accord to form alliance furthermore.”
They’ll foster their activities regarding upcoming election after completing the party Councils, he said.
According to a party source, the decision regarding Councils of associate organization may come from Ganobhaban as joint meeting of Local Representative Nomination Board and Parliamentary Board will be held there on Tuesday afternoon. The finalization of candidate in Faridpur-2 constituency, along with candidacy for some upazila, city corporation, union parishad will be finalized there. From the meeting, the date of holding councils of associate and same-minded organizations of the party can also be finalized by AL president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Last councils of Mohila Awami League and Jubo Mohila League were held in March 4 and March 11 of 2017 respectively. Term-period of the committee of both the organization expired in 2020.
Last Council of the Bangladesh Student League was held in May, 2018. In July, Razwanul Haque Haque Chowdhury and Golam Rabbani was selected as the president and general secretary of BSL. However, they lost their posts due to their alleged involvement in illegal money collections. Then, Al Nahian Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharya became acting president and general secretary of the organization. In January 4, 2020, both of them became fixed president and general secretary.
According to the constitution of the party, its essential to update committees of zila-upazila-thana-union-ward levels by holding councils prior to the central council of the party. Hence, activities regarding holding councils of various organizations from different levels have been fully initiated. Awami League high-command doesn’t want to think about election-related campaigns till next December. They’re working to strengthen and unified the organizations.
AL presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak told The Bangladesh Pratidin, “Any head of the government thinks of next election after the completion of a national election. However, Sheikh Hasina doesn’t think in this way. Rather she thinks about the party and the next generation. So, we’re also thinking about our organization. We’ll have finished holding councils of central committee, associate and same-minded organizations and city committee. After selecting eligible leadership for election, we’ll go the fields with our election planning.”
According to the party sources, in promotional activities regarding next election, it will highlight various development projects undertaken and completed by the government and negative activities of BNP and Jamayat-e-Islami. Moreover, they’ll talk about future development projects including bullet train connection with the city, rail communication in southern part of the country, second Jamuna Bridge and another satellite. They’ll keep them in their election manifesto, too. Furthermore, planning to become middle-income country within 2021, developed country within 2041, and a-hundred-years delta plan to take Bangladesh to an extraordinary height within 2100 will also be included in the manifesto.
AL presidium member and Rajshahi city mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton told The Bangladesh Pratidin they will show the comparative scenario of AL and BNP regime. Incidence of corruption, terrorism and torture on minority during BNP regime will be highlighted as well, along with their violent activities in the name of running movement.
AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif said, “Our leaders are working on holding the national council in scheduled time. Extended meeting, meeting of representatives and district level meetings are going on aiming at holding council in their respective districts. The date of councils might be decided this week.”
