2 detained with 6 gold bars in Meherpur

Police detained a man and a woman with six gold bars worth Tk 54 lakh in Meherpur town on Wednesday dawn.

The detainees are Masud, son of late Abdul Mannan of Madonpur village of Bandar upazila of Narayanganj and Kaniz Fatema Lipi, wife of Sheikh Ashraful Kabir of Moghbazar in the capital.

Acting on tip-off police detained them from Boro Bazar Chowrasta intersection of Meherpur town at around 5:00 am.

According to police Masud and Lipi come from Dhaka with gold bars for smuggling.

Confirming the matter, Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam said a case was lodged against the detainees.
