Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a man with four gold bars weighing 449.53 grams at the Gayespur border of Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga on Monday.
The detainee is Tazmul Hossain, 30, son of Sakher Ali hailing from Goalpara village under the upazila.
A media release on Tuesday from the Mahespur BGB-58 battalion said, Tazul was captured at around 8 pm near a brick kiln at Gayespur.
Acting on a tip-off that smugglers are preparing to smuggle gold to India, BGB personnel conducted the drive and detained a man with four gold bars, it added.
A case was filed against Tazmul and his associate Majid Mondol who is on the run.
Tazmul was handed over to Jibannagar Police Station.
