The Election Commission (EC) has finalised a Tk 8,711.44 crore project for procurement of fresh two lakh Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), repairing and maintenance of existing ones for the next parliamentary elections.
Election Commissioner Md Alamgir told reporters that a project proposal would be sent to the Planning Commission.
He said the commission has decided to hold polls in EVM in a maximum of 150 parliamentary seats, reports BSS.
The commissioner said, "At present, the commission can hold polls in EVM at 70 seats. So, the commission needs more EVMs or equipment to hold the election in 150 seats."
The EC would have to hold a meeting with the concerned ministry over manpower for holding the national polls, added Alamgir.
