Robbers looted 40 bhori of gold and cash Tk 2.5 lakh from Apan Jewellers at Meherpur on Friday night.
The looters broke into the shop named Apan Jewellers and fled away taking the valuables on Friday night.
Mohadeb Kumar, the jeweler of the shop, said “We went home leaving 40 bhori gold and Tk 2,50,000 in the shop Thursday night. Opening the shop on Saturday, we found the wall broken and gold and money missing.”
He claimed to have registered a complaint with Meherpur Police Station in connection with the robbery.
Jamirul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police, Apu Sarwar, Additional Superintendent of Police, and others visited the spot.
Sheikh Momin, general secretary of the Meherpur Jewellery Association, said “It is alarming to have a shop robbed of at the centre of the district town. The law enforcers should beef up security in and around the markets.”
Sadar thana OC Mesbah Uddin Ahmed said the police high-ups have visited the spot and drive to arrest the robbers is underway.
