The government has requested the countrymen to set the temperature of their air conditioners at a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius in offices and households during the upcoming Ramadan and the summer season.
A circular signed by the additional secretary of the Cabinet Division, Zaheda Parveen, was issued in this regard on Sunday.
According to the circular, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has advised all to set the minimum AC temperature at 25 degrees Celsius in government and private offices as well as households to ensure the efficient use of electricity.
Ramadan, summer, and irrigation season will begin simultaneously this year, leading to a significant increase in electricity demand, it said, adding that using air conditioners at the prescribed temperature setting can help deal with this increased demand.
Therefore, all government, autonomous, statutory, and private institutions have been requested to ensure that their air conditioners are set at 25 degrees Celsius or higher.
Additionally, the circular urged the Ministry of Commerce to inform the private sector through various business organisations, and the Ministry of Social Welfare and the NGO Affairs Bureau to inform private voluntary organisations about the decision.
On February 17, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan requested that air conditioners be kept at 25°C or above during the upcoming Ramadan and the summer season.
He also warned that if this request is ignored, the power supply may be disconnected, or other legal actions may be taken.
