Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, we’ve to increase our own capacity in order to minimize dependency on India and China.
He said this in ‘Meet the Press’ event organized by Overseas Correspondence Association Bangladesh (OCAB) at Mowlana Akran Khan Auditorium of National Press Club on Saturday.
Tipu Munshi said, reports have been published hinting that next year will see a bleaker picture. So, we’ve to become self-sufficient in food production. If we do well in it, we’d meet up the internal demand and be saved from big crisis.
He said, as government is very much concern regarding the matter, we’re in drive to get money from outside and trying to reduce import and increase exports, adding that it’d be a very good thing if we can increase the amount of export to India and China.
About the initiatives to be taken to reduce the trade-deficit with India and China, Commerce Minister said, export to India has been increased from 1.56 billion to 2 billion dollars. However, we’ve to import a huge quantity of raw materials from India and China which entails trade-deficit.
If we can establish more industrial factory across the country, as well as increase export, then this deficit will be reduced, he added.
