A Rohingya teenager was killed and five others were injured in mortar shell blasts fired by the Myanmar army on Friday night.
The deceased is Md Ikbal, 18, son of Monir Ahmed and resident of the Zero Point Rohingya Camp in no-man's-land.
Locals said shell fired exploded at the Zero Point Rohingya Camp close to the international border in Tombru, Bandarban.
The injured in the mortar shells blasts are Sadia Jannat, 10, Sabekur Nahar, 30, daughter and wife of Salim Ullah, Nabi Hussain, 22, son of Syed Karim, Bhulu, 44, and Anachh, 12, son of Rahim Ullah. All of them are the residents of Tombru no-man’s land.
The injured were taken to Medecins Sans Frontieres-run hospital in the Kutupalong camp in Ukhia and later shifted to Cox’s Bazar sadar hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Yasmin Parveen Tibriji, deputy commissioner of Bandarban, said four mortar shells landed in succession at the Rohingya camp around 8 pm. One exploded, leaving Iqbal dead on the spot and five others injured.
Rohingya leader Dil Mohammad said a fighter jet of Myanmar entered Bangladesh territory on Thursday and later went back.
Earlier in the day, a Bangladeshi youth was injured as a mine exploded on the Hedmanpara border of the same area.
Earlier on September 4, Bangladesh reiterated its "deep concern" over the recent incidents of Myanmar's mortar shelling, indiscriminate aerial firing in the bordering areas, and air space violations.
The foreign ministry summoned Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka Aung Kyaw Moe and lodged a strong protest over the recent incidents along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
