Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Wednesday asserted that there is no scope for political crisis over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
He came up with the assertion while briefing journalists at his office in response to the statement of 39 eminent citizens over EVMs.
Earlier on Tuesday, in a statement, 39 eminent citizens in the country said, “We think that the election commission’s decision on EVMs is illogical. This decision will instigate political controversy and will increase crisis of confidence on the election commission.”
Ruling out political crisis, Kazi Habibul Awal said, “We don’t see any political crisis over EVMs.”
The CEC also said, “A free, fair and peaceful election is important to us. The way of holding an election is not essential. A peaceful election is possible if the crisis ends.”
