Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a youth with 20 smuggled gold bars in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
The arrestee is identified as Kabir Ahmed, 30, son of Zafar Ahmed, hailing from Tumur Paschimkul at Balukhali in Naikhongchhari under Bandarban.
Col Md Mehedi Hossain Kabir, commander of 34-BGB, confirmed the incident at a press statement.
According to the statement, members of Ghumdhum BOP received prior information that a group of trans-boundary offenders would enter Bangladesh with huge smuggled gold from Myanmar.
Patrol team of the BGB took strategic position near 5 no Palang Khali UP Customs Intersection under Ukhia upazila and succeeded in arresting the youth at 3:30pm.
During search of the body of the boy, BGB recovered 20 gold bars weighing 3,321.57 gram worth Tk 2,27,81,687.
