Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader urged the authorities concerned to meet the demand for the tea workers across the country to increase their daily wage from Tk 120 to Tk 300.
He made the call in a statement on Monday.
Terming the movement of the tea workers is logical, GM Quader said, Tk 120 daily wage for a tea worker is not only inhumane but also a bad example of exploitation.
The JP chief said tea workers have been depriving of their rights for years. Their dream is being ruined by the exploitation of the tea estate owners.
Mentioning even Tk 300 daily wage is not enough in the present price hike of the daily essentials in the country, he urged the authorities concerned to meet tea workers’ demand immediately.
Earlier on Saturday, tea garden workers of 23 tea estates in Sylhet launched an indefinite strike demanding a daily wage rise from Tk 120 to Tk 300. They had been observing daily two-hour work absentia to push for the wage hike since August 9.
