The Jordan Foreign Ministry has condemned in the “strongest terms” Israel’s decision to set up a government agency to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, reports Al Jazeera.
The ministry noted in a statement that the move comes as the Israeli security cabinet also decided to recognise 13 new illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
It said all these measures are “invalid and represent a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law” and “constitute the crime of forced displacement of Palestinians from their occupied land”.
Israel’s plan comes after US President Donald Trump called for the relocation of Gaza’s population, including to Egypt and Jordan.
Palestinians in Gaza, however, have rejected Trump’s proposal, describing it as ethnic cleansing and saying they want to remain on their land. Arab nations, too, have opposed it and presented a counter-proposal to rebuild Gaza without relocating its residents.
