North Korea has urged the United States to abandon military threats if it is truly concerned about protecting its mainland, state media KCNA reported on Saturday. The warning came in response to recent remarks from the head of U.S. Northern Command about the capability of North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) to reach American soil, reads an AOL post.
According to KCNA, an unnamed official from North Korea’s defense ministry accused the U.S. of escalating tensions through actions such as conducting joint military exercises with South Korea and deploying a nuclear submarine to the Korean Peninsula. The official insisted that Pyongyang has the sovereign right to strengthen its self-defense in response to perceived threats.
"It is the United States, not us, that is engaging in confrontational behavior," the report stated, condemning Washington’s continued military maneuvers in the region.
North Korea has long criticized U.S.-South Korea military drills, viewing them as rehearsals for invasion. Meanwhile, Washington and its allies argue these exercises are defensive in nature, meant to counter North Korea’s advancing missile and nuclear programs.
This latest exchange highlights the continued friction between the two nations, as North Korea pushes back against what it sees as U.S. provocations while reaffirming its commitment to military development.
