A wildfire that erupted on December 18 in Khokhrapar Union Council and parts of Achhro Thar has killed 180 animals, destroyed crops, fodder, and over 50,000 trees across 20 acres, according to villagers, as reported by DAWN.
The blaze, which reportedly started near the Indian border, wiped out guar crops and trees like ber, kunbhat, kandi, rohira, and phogg. Thousands of birds, including peacocks, partridges, doves, crows, and sparrows, also perished in the flames.
The affected communities, heavily reliant on livestock and arid farming, now face significant challenges. With grazing grounds and fodder destroyed, surviving livestock are at risk of starvation.
Villagers are demanding immediate compensation for their losses and sustainable measures to prevent future incidents. They expressed disappointment over the government's inaction, noting that only MPA Amir Ali Shah had visited the site. No official assessments or aid have yet reached the affected areas.
The wildfire, which spread to parts of Achhro Thar in Sanghar district, left vast stretches of land devastated. Local communities have urged federal and provincial authorities to take swift action, both for immediate relief and to ensure such disasters are mitigated in the future.
