Vladimir Zelensky, President of war-torn Ukraine, has congratulated Donald Trump on his “impressive election victory” in the US election and expressed hope for a personal meeting, reports TASS.
He shared his thoughts on social media platform X on Wednesday. He said, “Congratulations to Donald Trump on his impressive election victory! I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September, when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-US strategic partnership."
He said Kiev was counting on continued “strong bipartisan support”.
Zelensky added that he would like to personally congratulate Trump on his victory and discuss ways of strengthening cooperation. Zelensky said he expected that Trump's approach would bring the conflict over Ukraine closer to an end and hoped to "put it into action together."
According to forecasts by Fox News TV and The Hill newspaper, Trump won the November 5 election. He himself has already declared his political victory and called himself the 47th president of the United States. The ruling Democratic Party was represented by Kamala Harris. She has been the Vice President of the United States since January 2021.
Trump was the 45th American president. He lost the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden.
During his election campaign, Trump declared that he was going to put an end to the Ukrainian conflict. Zelensky had previously repeatedly recognized that there was a risk American support for Ukraine might run dry, if Trump returned to the White House.
During a trip to the United States in September, Zelensky met with the incumbent President Joe Biden, to whom he presented his so-called plan, as well as with Harris and Trump. Many experts in Ukraine from the very beginning of this visit drew attention to Zelensky's weak position in the US. In particular, his conversation with Trump caused a great deal of criticism and doubts about the results.
