Finance adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said in next fiscal year’s (2025-26) budget the incentives for businessmen will be reduced.
He made the remark at annual meeting of International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB) on Sunday at an ostentatious hotel at Gulshan.
He said: “Businessmen have to pay ‘logical’ tax as it is impossible to provide incentives for lifetime. Incentives will be reduced in the next fiscal year’s budget.”
The finance adviser said: “Theft and corruption occur in many countries, but corruption is not as common as in Bangladesh. Even though taxes have been reduced, prices of daily necessities are not decreasing. The new extortionist took charge, they have not stooped.”
During this time he said: “Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan should have been fined two years ago for capital market manipulation.”
Noted economist Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya was present at the meeting, he said: “People will lose their patience for reforms if the government fails to weal the economic and law and order situation.”
He again recommended for middle-term reform actions for the betterment of the situation.
The vital economist said: “During the Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year long regime, the investment in private sectors has not increased, and so happened in foreign investment.”
The economic reforms should be considered first than the other reforms. The political reforms depend on the economic reforms.
