Production of at least 15 garment factories in Ashulia was forced to shut down on Sunday morning.
All the factories were opened in the morning. But about two hours into launching, 15 RMG factories were forces to close.
Workers in these factories started observing work abstention, prompting authorities to stop all activities over concerns of further tensions. However, industrial police superintendent Sarwar Alam confirmed no untoward incident took place amid a beefed up presence of law enforcers.
The workers demanded the RMG factory owners made no reference to their demands, so they had to pause production activities.
Worker demands in the remaining 30 factories, which had to shut operations on Saturday, were largely addressed through verbal commitments, and thus operations continued uninterrupted in these facilities.
Khaiul Mamun Mintu, legal affairs secretary at Bangladesh Garments and Sweaters Worker Trade Union, said the owners of the 15 closed factories only need to sit down with their workers over their demands for resuming production activities.
