A police couple has been shown arrested in a case filed over the torture of a domestic worker using a hot pan In an incident in Sonadanga of Khulna.
The victim’s mother filed a case at Sonadanga Model Police Station.
Later that morning, the accused police couple were shown arrested on Thursday morning.
The accused are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sanjoy Mitra, who is posted at Sonadanga Police Station, and his wife ASI Popy Mitra.
According to eyewitness sources, the incident of abuse took place on Wednesday afternoon at a rented house near the Solar Park in the Second Phase area of Sonadanga residential zone.
Locals reported that they saw through a window that the girl was being tortured, with hot cooking utensils used to burn various parts of her face and body. When she tried to turn away in pain, she was also forced to sit and stand while holding her ears.
Locals alleged that the abuse began after a domestic dispute over spilled food. They also claimed that ASI Sanjoy Mitra and his wife ASI Popy Mitra had frequently physically abused the domestic worker. Old injury marks were also visible on different parts of the victim’s body.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station Md. Rafiqul Islam said, “The victim’s mother came from Narsingdi to Khulna early Thursday morning and filed the case. After the case was lodged, the police couple was shown arrested. The victim has been admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment.”
