Two workers were killed in a fire at a chips factory in the capital’s Badda area on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 3:00 am at a factory located on Kaborstan Road in East Badda.
The deceased are -- Mahmudul Hasan (23), son of Islam Uddin of Taraganj upazila in Rangpur, and Mostafa Mia (21), son of Majnu Mia of Char Kajipara village under the same upazila.
Witness and co-worker Rakibul Islam said the building was a two-storey structure, with a furniture factory on the ground floor and a chips factory above it. Around 10 workers were sleeping inside after finishing work at night. When the fire broke out around 3:00 am, most of them managed to escape, but Mahmudul Hasan and Mostafa Mia could not get out and were later found dead.
Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Harun or Rashid confirmed the incident.
Bodies were recovered around 4:15 am from the chips factory owned by Amir Hossain and later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
