The namaz-e-janaza for Md Hasan, 19, who was shot and killed in Jatrabari during the July uprising, has been held.
Following the prayer, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement handed over Hasan’s body to his family, reports Dhaka Tribune.
During this time, movement members staged a protest march carrying his coffin, demanding a ban on the fascist Awami League.
On Friday, after the Jummah prayer, the namaz-e-janaza was conducted in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University. Following the prayer, attendees organized a coffin march towards the VC Chattar.
The protest was attended by the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, university students, and members of Hasan’s family.
After the namaz-e-janaza, Hasan’s father, Md Monir Hossain said: “My son went missing on August 5. I searched for him everywhere—hospitals, clinics, cemeteries, even at Anjuman Mufidul Islam—but found no trace. Later, upon receiving information from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, I went to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, where I identified my son’s body by his clothing.”
He added: “On Saturday, February 15, following a second funeral prayer in Bhola Sadar, he will be buried at 10am in our hometown.”
Demanding justice, he said: “I do not want any other father to suffer the same fate. I demand justice for my son’s murder from the government.”
Abdul Hannan Masud, the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said: “Even after six months, the blood of revolutionaries continues to be shed, and many have become martyrs. We call upon the government to permanently ban the Awami League.”
He continued: “If anyone attempts to rehabilitate them under any pretext, we are prepared to sacrifice another 2,000 lives, just as 2,000 were martyred in July. We will not stop until the Awami League is completely banned.”
Hasan was identified through a DNA test conducted on Thursday.
His body was among seven unidentified corpses stored at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, all casualties of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
