The body of a missing 7-year-old girl was recovered from a bamboo cluster in Jhikargacha upazila, Jashore district, on Wednesday, 13 hours after she was reported missing.
The victim, Sadia Khatun, daughter of day laborer Bablur Rahman Babu from Matikomra village in Hajibagh union, was found with a t-shirt wrapped around her neck.
Sadia's grandfather, Fazlur Rahman Faju, reported that the child had been missing since Tuesday afternoon, prompting the family to file a General Diary (GD) at the Jhikargacha police station.
According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhikargacha Police Station, Bablur Rahman Khan, Sadia's father lodged a complaint and expressed suspicion that their neighbor, Champa Khatun, may have been involved in the disappearance.
Following the complaint, local residents detained Champa, suspecting that she may have killed the child in an attempt to steal her earrings. Champa was subsequently handed over to the police.
The body of Sadia was later discovered in a bamboo cluster owned by Harun Or Rashid, located next to Champa's house.
The OC also mentioned that, according to local sources, Champa Khatun is known to be a drug addict.
Sadia's body was sent to the Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
