Six Bangladeshis, along with two trawlers carrying construction materials, were abducted by the Arakan Army from the Naf River estuary while en route to St. Martin's Island.
The complaint was filed on Wednesday afternoon by Abdur Rashid, the affected trawler owner and president of the Teknaf-St. Martin's Island Service Boat Owners Association.
He stated that on Tuesday afternoon, two service trawlers—SB Russell, owned by him, and SB Faruk, owned by Abdur Rob—were carrying rods and cement to St. Martin's Island.
As they passed through the Naikhyongdia area, members of the Arakan Army hijacked the vessels at gunpoint.
Six crew members were aboard the two trawlers.
Following the incident, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coast Guard, and local authorities were notified.
Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed stated, "No one from the Service Trawler Owners Association has informed us about the matter so far. However, we are investigating the issue."
An official from the Coast Guard’s St, Martin's Island station, who requested to remain anonymous, said that efforts are underway to contact Myanmar’s Arakan Army.
The matter has also been reported to higher authorities.
