Court has ordered the imprisonment of 55 individuals arrested during a rally in the Gulistan and Paltan areas under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Among those arrested, at least eight are women.
The order was issued by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka on Monday.
According to police and court sources, on Sunday, the Paltan police arrested 42 individuals and the Shahbagh police apprehended 13 others during an operation in the Gulistan Zero Point area and its surroundings. The detainees were subsequently charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
On Monday, the police presented the detainees in court, requesting their detention in jail.
Meanwhile, defense lawyers filed bail applications for each of the accused.
After hearing both sides, the court ordered that all the accused be sent to jail.
