After a historic T20 series win against the West Indies, where Bangladesh claimed their first-ever T20 series victory in the Caribbean, the team received disappointing news about key player Soumya Sarkar.
During the match, while attempting to take a catch, the in-form Soumya injured his right index finger. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where scans confirmed he needed five stitches. Further examination revealed that a bone in his finger had shifted. National team physio Bayezidul Islam explained, "Soumya's right index finger was moved, requiring five stitches. An X-ray showed the bone had made a move. It will take three to four weeks for him to recover."
The injury occurred in the 6th over of the West Indies' innings when Rovman Powell was dismissed at slip by a delivery from Tanzim Hasan Shakib. As the ball, coming at shoulder height, unexpectedly changed direction mid-air, it struck Soumya's finger. He immediately grimaced in pain following the impact.
With the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) set to begin on December 30, Soumya is expected to miss several early matches.
Despite the ODI defeat, the Tigers triumphed in the T20 series with a match to spare, securing their first T20 series win over the West Indies in six years and their first-ever T20 series victory on foreign soil in two years. Bangladesh sealed the win by 27 runs in a low-scoring match in St. Vincent on Wednesday.
