Bangladesh tied the series by securing a victory over the West Indies in the final match of the Test series. However, Mehedi Hasan Miraz's team kicked off the ODI series with a loss. In this match, Mahmudullah Riyad hit a fifty against the West Indies in ODIs.
During this innings, Mahmudullah completed 200 sixes in international cricket. This 38-year-old cricketer has reached this milestone as the first batsman of Bangladesh.
The experienced batsman took the field in this match, needing just two to three more sixes to reach 200. In his unbeaten 50-run innings off 44 balls, he hit three fours and three sixes.
The record was formerly held by Tamim Iqbal, who ended his career with 188 sixes. Mahmudullah reached 200 sixes in 430 innings, while Tamim accomplished this in 448 innings. Tamim still holds the record for the most sixes by a Bangladeshi in both Tests and ODIs, with 41 sixes in Tests and 103 in ODIs. Mahmudullah has hit 24 sixes in Tests and 99 in ODIs. However, in T20Is, Mahmudullah has surpassed Tamim, hitting 77 sixes.
Following these two, Mushfiqur Rahim has struck the most sixes across all three formats. In 521 innings, he floated the ball out of bounds 173 times. Shakib Al Hasan has hit 135 sixes in 491 innings. Litton Kumar Das ranks fifth in the record with 119 sixes. Additionally, Soumya Sarkar (109) and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (107) also have a century of sixes.
None of them are close to the world record for sixes in international cricket. Rohit Sharma leads with 624 sixes, followed by Chris Gayle with 553 sixes, and Shahid Afridi with 476 sixes. No one else has hit 400 sixes. Mahmudullah is now the 41st player to achieve the double century of sixes.
