Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed said on Thursday that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is likely to miss the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan as he is out of practice for some time.
"Shakib is likely to miss the next series (against Afghanistan) as he is out of practice for some time and probably needs some time to regroup,” Faruque told reporters at Chattogram on Thursday.
“Taking everything into consideration it seems that he will miss the tour of Afghanistan,” he said.
Faruque insisted that it was Shakib's call, adding he can be mentally disturbed a bit after what has happened regarding his participation in the Mirpur Test which Shakib had earlier announced would be his final Test.
Earlier, Faruque insisted on Wednesday that Shakib will be available for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
The series is set to begin in the UAE on 6 November, with the subsequent matches scheduled for November 9 and 11.
There had been concerns regarding Shakib’s participation, especially after he was advised not to return home for the two-match Test series against South Africa, which he had hoped would be his farewell due to security concerns.
