Bangladesh suffered a huge 133-run defeat in the third and final T20I and lost the series 0-3 on a record-breaking night for the hosts at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Bangladesh managed to score 164/7 in a record run chase of 298 and eventually lost the match by 133 runs.

This is Bangladesh’s largest defeat by a margin of runs, beating the previous record of 104-run defeat to South Africa in 2022.

Bangladesh started aggressively in the chase but lost three wickets – Parvez Hossain Emon (0), Tanzid Hasan (15) and skipper Najmul Hossain (14) - in the powerplay.

They kept on scoring runs, reaching 94/3 after 10 overs, thanks to Liton Kumer Das but that was never going to be enough to chase down a mammoth total of 297. Liton bagged 42 before departing smashing eight boundaries.

Mahmudullah, in his final T20I innings, scored 8 from 9 balls as he was caught at long-on.

Towhid Hridoy reached his half-century in 35 balls, but that only reduced the margin of runs. He scored an unbeaten 63 from 42 balls. He hit three maximums and five boundaries.

Earlier, India recorded a new T20I high as Sanju Samson (111) and Suryakumar Yadav (75) powered the hosts to the highest T20I score by a Test-playing nation - 297/6 in 20 overs.

The hosts went past Afghanistan's 278/3 against Ireland in 2019. The Indian total is currently the second highest in T20Is format after Nepal's 314/3 against Mongolia in last year's Asian Games in China.

India scored 232 runs through boundaries, the most by any team in a men's T20.

Samson reached his triple-figure mark - his first T20I ton - in a mere 40 balls, the second-fastest by an Indian batter, as he finished with 111 off 47 balls smashing eight sixes and 11 boundaries.

He put on 173 runs from 70 balls with skipper Suryakumar for the second wicket.

Suryakumar smashed five maximums and eight boundaries during his 75-run innings before being Mahmudullah’s farewell T20I cricket in the 15th over.

Towards the end, Hardik Pandya (47) and Riyan Parag (34) punished the Bangladesh bowlers further, putting on 70 runs for the fourth wicket.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib got the wickets of Pandya and Nitish Reddy in the final over as both went for big shots to help India reach 300 but were caught near the boundary line.

All the Bangladeshi bowlers were expensive, Rishad Hossain conceded 46 in his two overs.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, despite getting three wickets, gave away 66 in his four overs.

This is now the most expensive bowling spell in T20I cricket for Bangladesh. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman conceded 51 and 52 respectively picking up one wicket each.
