Bangladesh T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan on Saturday said the team needs to start afresh in order to do well in the shorter format of international cricket.
Tigers are now preparing for the Asia Cup starting on August 27 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Shakib will lead in the team in this event. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already announced a squad, reports UNB.
In the event's initial phase, Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
Sakib said, “I don’t think we have a way other than starting afresh to do well in T20Is.”
“We played our first T20I in 2006. Since then, we couldn't do well in this format. We appeared only in one final of the Asia Cup,” he added.
Shakib also said the Bangladesh team needs to start like a baby, one step at a time.
“We may not be able to do well at first. We have to start like a baby step. We can do well this way,” he said.
