At last the schedule of Football World Cup 2022 has been changed as it was assumed earlier.
The greatest show on earth was to begin on November 21 with the match between Senegal and Netherlands. However, the fixture has been brought one day forward.
In a statement, FIFA confirms this change.
The Qatar World Cup will be kicked off on November 20, one day prior to its previously announced date. On the opening day, Ecuador will face the host country Qatar on local time 7 pm.
So, to keep the schedule intact, the tournament will last for 29 days, instead of 28 days.
In the statement, FIFA said, on 20 November, Sunday, the host country would face Ecuador at Al Bait Stadium in Al Khor city. According to the new fixture, the ‘Group A’ match between Senegal and Netherlands will be held next day, November 21. But, the schedule of match between Iran and England remains unchanged.
In fact, according to the world cup tradition, the host country plays the opening game. However, in the present schedule there was no presence of host Qatar, nor the current champion France. To ensure the presence of Qatar, the decision has been taken to forward the world cup.
Members from FIFA world cup organizing committee made a discussion meeting with the football officials of Ecuador. They have given their consent to FIFA without any objection.
