Bangladesh saw a wonderful uprising in 51 years after getting independence. Despite having limited resources, in 20 sectors it has created prideful and envying position in the world. In these sectors, Bangladesh is in top 10 places in the world.
Bangladesh has been changed almost in every spheres including social and economic field. The country has turned into a middle-income country from a low-income one. In addition, it has achieved excellence in humane issues by providing shelter to 10 lakh persecuted Rohingya people.
According to the information of Agriculture Extension Department of Agriculture Ministry, during the liberation war, the country had cultivable land of 2 crore 17 lakh hectare and only one crop was produced on these piece of lands. So, to fulfill the food demand, the country had to rely heavily on foreign aid and food assistance. After 51 years, the amount of cultivable lands was reduced to 60 percent. However, with more than double population of that time, now, Bangladesh is being able to fulfill its food-demand with own production. Because of this success in food-production, Bangladesh is regarded as one of the top 10 food producing countries in the world by Food and Agricuture Organization (FAO).
According to the survey of various agencies, Bangladesh is in 3rd place in rice and fish productions. In terms of producing Hilsha fish, Bangladesh is the first in the world as 86 percent of total global production of Hilsha is taken place in the country. It’s also in 3rd place in the world in vegetable production and first in jute production.
Bangladesh is in 4th place in goat production and 9th in tea production. In addition, in the production of fruits, the country is in 10th position.
Bangladesh is highly recognized in the world for its success in Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector. There’s no country in the world where ‘Made in Bangladesh’ tagged clothes are not available as it’s in second position in exporting garments products.
Besides, medicines of Bangladesh are being exported to around 80 countries of in Europe, Africa and Asia. The Bangladeshi medicines are being exported after fulfilling 97 percent of the local demand. Bangladesh is in high rank in manpower export. Bangladeshi workers and professionals are contributing in the economic advancement of many countries in the world, in addition to its strong presence in United Nations Peacekeeper forces.
Bangladesh also is in top 10 in terms of receiving remittance. It’s in 8th place in remittance receiving thanks to money sent by more than 1,25,00,000 expatriates living in different parts of the world. With the lively presence of 6,00,000 freelancers, Bangladesh is in 6th palce in terms of having freelancing workers.
According to the economists, once the US criticized Bangladesh as ‘bottomless basket’ after the independence. However, without the assistance of US-backed World Bank, Bangladesh has been implementing largest projects with own-finance.
Bangladesh is ahead of Pakistan in almost all indexes, even its ahead of India and China in some cases. The country is ahead of India and Pakistan in terms of achievement in health and education. It’s ahead of Pakistan both in GDP and per people GDP and also ahead of both India and Pakistan in gross savings GDP. Bangladesh also became more advanced in average life expectancy than that of India and Pakistan.
Bangladesh made the world amazed by successfully providing shelter to more than 10 lakh Rohingya refugees came from Myanmar. By providing shelter to huge number of Rohingyas, Bangladesh has achieved worldwide reputation as a humane country. Without Bangladesh, more than one million of Rohigyas might not have a place of shelter elsewhere in the world.
