Director Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond is going to make a biopic on Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, known as the leader of the oppressed people (Majlum Janoneta) of Bangladesh. The shooting of the film titled 'Bhasani' will commence in the middle of next year. Pre-production work is currently underway.
In this context, the director said, 'Maulana Bhasaniis an influential political figure not only in the history of Bangladesh, but also throughout his life in this region, starting from the British rule to the present. I have decided to make a film to present Maulana Bhasani to the new generation through the film.'
Explaining the reason for making a film based on Bhasani's biography, Diamond said, 'The scope of Maulana Bhasani's life is very deep. He is directly involved in the history of Bangladesh's independence since the British rule. A lot of research is needed to make a film about him. In addition, its the high time we made a film about Bhasani. He was kept in a political trap for so long. I was worried whether I would be able to release a movie about him or not. Because, when it comes to history, the truth has to be presented. I was afraid whether I would be able to accept that truth or not. Now that fear is gone. There is no power to hold back Maulana Bhasani.’
However, mentioning that no one has been finalized for the role of Bhasani yet, he said, ‘I want to select someone as Bhasani who looks like Bhasani. If I take a familiar face, it may not work. So I want to work with a new face. The audition process will be announced soon.’
However, Diamond said the movie will start from Bhasani’s age of 13. Three actors will portray his character at different ages.
The producer said that the initial plan is to start shooting on May 16.
