The Indira Gandhi Cultural Center (IGCC) in Dhaka has organised a musical evening featuring Shyama Sangeet by Kazi Nazrul Islam, showcasing the symphony of Bangladesh’s national poet.
Kazi Nazrul Islam, the national poet of Bangladesh, is revered both in Bangladesh and India.
He composed over a hundred devotional songs dedicated to Goddess Maa Kali, collectively known as Shyama Sangeet.
Renowned artists Tito Munshi, Mridula Samadder and Bijon Chandra Mistry performed selected pieces of Nazrul’s Shyama Sangeet at the event held at the IGCC in the capital on Tuesday, reports a press release.
In his address, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma emphasised that Kazi Nazrul’s works are a shared cultural heritage of both India and Bangladesh.
It also offers a unique opportunity to strengthen the people-to-people and cultural connections between the two countries, he said.
