Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said that the continued visibility of activities by a banned political party reflects a failure on the part of the nation.
“The fact that the activities of a banned party are still noticeable is a failure for the nation. I do not wish to comment on the banned party,” the minister said.
He made the remarks on Tuesday morning while responding to journalists' questions after inaugurating a tree-planting programme of Bangladesh Railway beneath the viaduct at the Dhaka end of the railway bridge constructed over the Dhaleshwari River in the Char Golgolia area of Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj.
The minister said t by operating against public aspirations and interests, the political party in question had become abandoned and rejected by the people and was ultimately banned.
“A banned organization is banned, and that is final,” he said.
He further stated the important issue now is how the nation views the banning of the political party.
“The party was banned because the people wanted it banned. Through a mass uprising, the people rejected them and forced them to leave the country. The legitimacy of a political party comes from the people. Now the people have rejected them, and the law has also banned them. Therefore, it is better not to discuss anything that has been banned.”
Speaking about solar power generation, the minister said unused land under various government ministries and agencies is being identified.
The land has been categorized according to size, and plans are underway to establish solar power projects, particularly on plots larger than three acres, he added.
“More than one megawatt of electricity can be generated from land exceeding three acres. Solar panels will be installed on these sites, and the electricity produced will be used locally as well as supplied to the national grid,” he said.
