Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that BNP has never believed in one-party rule, and the party has been fighting for the establishment and protection of democracy for the past five decades.
He said this in response to questions from journalists after visiting the graves of the martyrs of the July Movement at the North Islampur graveyard in Munshiganj city on Saturday afternoon.
In response to opposition leader Jamaat Ameer's comments that BNP wants to establish one-party rule, the BNP Secretary General said, "It would be better to ask the opposition leader about what he said. We can only say that we do not believe in one-party rule. We are the only party that has been fighting and struggling for democracy for the past fifty years. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman established multi-party democracy. National leader Begum Khaleda Zia has introduced parliamentary democracy. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman was in exile abroad for a long time in the struggle to establish democracy. So there is no opportunity to question BNP on democracy.”
He also said, “Jamaat-e-Islami is a limited mindset political party. They do not believe in democracy.”
Regarding the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Malaysia, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The issue of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries will be of utmost importance during the visit. In addition, the issue of reopening the labor market of Bangladesh, which has been closed for a long time, will also be discussed.”
He expressed hope that through this visit, new areas of cooperation will be created by protecting mutual interests and dignity between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
