The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has tried to push four people into Bangladesh through the Khalpara area of the Buripota border in Meherpur Sadar Upazila. However, the attempt failed due to the tight stance of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The incident took place near the zero line of the border early on Friday.
According to BGB and local sources, the locals informed the BGB about the matter after seeing suspicious movements in the border area in the early hours of the morning. Upon receiving the information, BGB members quickly went to the spot and took up positions and tightened security at the border. Then, the BGB saw four people staying near the zero line of the border. Due to the BGB's tight stance, the BSF could not allow them to enter Bangladesh. Later, the BSF removed the four people from the border area.
Sources said that one of the four people was a man and three others were women. However, no confirmed information has been received yet about their identity, nationality or the purpose for which they were brought to the border.
BGB-6 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Hasan told The Bangladesh Pratidin that the BSF had tried to push four people into Bangladesh before the rains on Friday morning. But due to the strict stance of the BGB, they could not enter Bangladesh. Later, the BSF was forced to take them back.
He also said that the BGB is on the highest alert at the border. Surveillance has been increased with the cooperation of the local people. The BGB is in a strong stance to prevent any kind of push-in.
As allegations of alleged push-ins at the border have increased in recent times, the BGB has further strengthened patrols and intelligence surveillance at the Meherpur border, according to relevant sources.
