The birthday of renowned cardiologist Dr Zubaida Rahman, Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, was observed on Thursday through a series of humanitarian and social welfare activities.
To mark the occasion, the Ziaur Rahman Foundation organised a Quran Khatam, health check-ups for children, free medicine distribution, assistance for street children, and a tree-planting programmes at the auditorium of T&T Mohila College in Mohakhali, Dhaka, reports The Daily Sun.
The event was attended by BNP Standing Committee Member and former minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan as the chief guest.
Among others present were Dr Shah Muhammad Aman Ullah, Director of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation; Dr Parvez Reza Kakon, Assistant Secretary for Health Affairs of the BNP; agronomist Mahbubul Haque Bacchu, Director of the Foundation; Engineer Zahirul Islam; Engineer Kuasha Umayun Chowdhury; and journalist Hafiz Al Asad Sayeed Khan.
Also attending the programme were Dr Galib Hasan, Health Affairs Secretary of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal; Dr Faruk Ahmed, Joint Secretary General of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB); Dr MR Hasan, Legal Affairs Secretary of DAB; Dr Ekramul Islam Saurav, Assistant Publicity Secretary of DAB; Dr Mehedi Hasan; Dr Tanzim Rubayed Afif, Acting General Secretary of the Chhatra Dal unit at government medical colleges; Mahmudul Hasan, a member of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation; along with teachers and students from three women's colleges.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan described Dr Zubaida Rahman as an accomplished and distinguished woman known for her intellect and dedication. He said she does not support lavish celebrations of her birthday and instead encourages activities that benefit society.
He added that Dr Zubaida Rahman has been working tirelessly to help build a knowledge-based society and a talented future generation, while supporting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's efforts in nation-building. According to him, the day's programmes reflected those values.
Later, Moyeen Khan planted a neem tree on the college grounds alongside other guests and inaugurated a health screening programme for street children. The Ziaur Rahman Foundation also hosted a lunch for hufez and street children.
The Foundation noted that Zubaida Rahman prefers to avoid extravagant birthday celebrations and instead promotes charitable and welfare-oriented initiatives for the benefit of the country and its people.
