Two separate road crashes in Brahmanbaria on Friday left four people dead and several others injured.
In one incident in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, three people, including a mother and her son, were killed in a collision involving a pickup van and a CNG-run auto rickshaw.
The accident took place at around 8:30 am on Friday (5 June) in the Biyalishar area of Ramrail Union on the Comilla–Sylhet highway.
The deceased were identified as auto rickshaw driver Mahbub (45), passenger Josna Begum (40), and her five-year-old son Ashraful.
Two others, Josna’s husband Kausar (50) and their daughter Adiba (4), were injured and are currently receiving treatment at Brahmanbaria General Hospital.
The family is from Bahadurpur village in Mulgram Union of Kasba Upazila in Brahmanbaria district.
Police said Kausar was travelling with his wife and children from Kasba to Sarail-Bishwaroad when a fish-laden pickup van hit the auto rickshaw from behind. The passengers were critically injured and later died at the district hospital.
Khaitahata Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abu Taher said police were sent to the scene immediately after receiving the report.
However, the pickup van driver and his assistant fled the scene and could not be arrested.
In a separate incident, a man was killed in a head-on collision between a private car and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sarail upazila of the district early Friday.
The accident took place around 6:00 am in the Bariura Bazar area of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Oli Mia (55), a passenger of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw. He was a resident of Baribari village under Panishwar union in Sarail upazila and the son of Haji Mohammad Idon Mia.
