US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen has congratulated Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In a congratulatory message on Wednesday, Ambassador Christensen said: “Congratulations Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on your election as President of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.”
The election of Khalilur Rahman to the prestigious position has been widely viewed as a significant diplomatic achievement for Bangladesh, reflecting the country's growing role and engagement in international affairs.
As President of the UN General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman will be responsible for presiding over the sessions of the world's most representative multilateral body, facilitating discussions on global challenges, and promoting cooperation among UN member states.
In the ballot, 190 votes were cast, with Bangladesh receiving 99 and Cyprus 91.
