Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has said that the investigation report into the deaths of six children at Ad-din Hospital in Moghbazar, the capital, will be submitted within three days.
He made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists at the Secretariat on Monday (June 1) after the Eid holidays.
The health minister said the incident was extremely tragic and that both the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) were conducting separate investigations to determine the actual cause of the deaths.
He added that he had personally visited the hospital, while the Director General of the DGHS had also gone to the site.
He said the report was originally supposed to be submitted within three days.
However, some additional information is being collected to prepare a more evidence-based report. The report is expected to be submitted by June 3, he continued.
The minister further said that the investigation was taking into account the statements of the children's guardians, the hospital's situation, and all other relevant aspects related to the deaths.
Regarding the absence of post-mortem examinations, he said the government had attempted to conduct autopsies to determine the causes of death, but the guardians did not give their consent.
The health minister said that conducting post-mortem examinations by force could have created a new crisis.
He also said that a case had been filed over the incident and that the investigation was ongoing. Further action would be taken in accordance with the law once the investigation report is received.
