Nearly 700,000 vehicles crossed the Padma and Jamuna bridges over the past 10 days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, generating almost Tk 64 crore in toll revenue.
According to the bridge authorities, a total of 679,997 vehicles used the two bridges during the period. Despite heavy traffic pressure, no major accidents or prolonged traffic congestion were reported.
A press release signed by Bangladesh Bridge Authority Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Masud Rana Sikder disclosed the information on Sunday.
Data from the authority show that 318,515 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge between May 21 and May 30, generating 36 crore 11 lakh 95 thousand and 900 taka in toll revenue.
During the same period, 361,482 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge, from which 27 crore 68 lakh 54 thousand and 900 taka was collected in tolls.
In the statement, Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf said that traffic movement on both the Padma and Jamuna bridges remained smooth due to well-planned preparations and coordinated management aimed at ensuring safe and hassle-free travel for Eid holidaymakers.
He said that although traffic volume was higher this year compared to previous years, no major accidents or significant congestion were observed.
"The Eid journey remained comfortable and orderly due to the coordinated efforts of all relevant agencies," he said.
Rouf also thanked the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, local administration, police, army, Health Services Division, transport owners and workers, as well as officials and employees involved in toll collection and traffic management for their sincere cooperation in ensuring the successful operation.
