Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has said that the recommendations for health sector reforms will be implemented in phases.
He said this when the members of the Health Sector Reform Commission led by National Professor Dr. AK Azad Khan met the minister at the conference room of the Health Ministry at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Also present during the meeting were Health Sector Reform Commission members professor Syed Akram Hossain, Dr. Mohammad Zakir Hossain, professor Dr. Liaquat Ali, MM Reza, Dr. Azharul Islam, and others.
The members of the commission met Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain and discussed in detail the implementation of the commission's report.
At the time, the members of the commission said that they are ready to provide all-out cooperation in the future to ensure the development, accountability, safety and people-oriented healthcare of the country's health system.
It was mentioned in the discussion that many of the important suggestions and recommendations provided to the Health Sector Reform Commission by the Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have been included in this report.
In addition, the opinions and suggestions of doctors, public health experts, administrative officers, researchers, health workers and other professionals have also been reflected in the report.
The members of the commission requested an increase in the budget for the health sector to strengthen and effectively implement primary healthcare, saying that if a strong primary healthcare system can be built, it will be possible to significantly reduce the burden of disease, medical expenses and additional pressure on tertiary hospitals.
In addition, the BNP's health manifesto also has significant similarities with the various recommendations of the commission, especially on health sector reform, digital health system, accountability, safety of doctors and improvement of service quality.
The Health Minister expressed hope and told the members of the commission that the government will take initiatives to implement these important recommendations in phases.
The Health Sector Reform Commission was formed during the interim government and they submitted recommendations to the government on health sector reforms.
