BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has arranged treatment for Magura child Asiya’s father, who became mentally unstable after her daughter’s tragic death.
Under the supervision of BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Md Rafiqul Islam, Asiya’s father has been admitted to a specialized hospital in Dhaka. Rabiul Islam Nayan, member secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal, revealed this information on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to the media, Rabiul Islam said, “On Monday, we organised an iftar gathering in Magura. During that time, our Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman instructed us to bring Asiya’s father to Dhaka for advanced treatment. That very night, we brought him from Magura to Dhaka and admitted him to a specialized hospital.”
“Asiya’s father has been mentally devastated after losing his daughter, and he is now undergoing treatment,” he added.
Earlier, on March 5, eight-year-old Asia was raped and physically abused while visiting her sister's in-laws. The next day, when her condition deteriorated, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. When her condition did not improve, she was later admitted to the Combined Military Hospital. There, she died on March 13.
Since the incident on March 5, Tarique Rahman has stood by Asiya’s family. During Asiya’s stay at the hospital, he spoke to her mother over the phone. The BNP Acting Chairman also formed a health and legal assistance cell to support the family with medical and legal aid.
