Following the change of government in Bangladesh, several Awami League leaders, including former MPs, have sought political asylum in Britain. Others have arrived on multiple-entry travel visas or investor permits.
Among those confirmed to have applied for asylum are former Awami League MPs Ranjit Chandra Sarkar and Bidhan Kumar Saha. One individual’s application under the Refugee Act has reportedly been approved, and he is now in the process of bringing his wife and children to Britain.
Former state minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury is also in London with his family, alongside other prominent figures, including former minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, Awami League Presidium member Abdur Rahman, and Kabir bin Anwar, co-chairman of the party’s election management committee and former secretary of the Council of Ministers.
