The High Court today (March 19) declared the Election Commission (EC) decision, cancelling the registration of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) as a political party, illegal.
A High Court division bench of Justice Mohammad Ullah and Justice Foyej Ahmed passed the order, declaring absolute a rule issued earlier in this regard, reports BSS.
JAGPA chairperson Barrister Tasmia Prodhan moved a plea filed for the party before the court.
The EC issued the circular on February 1, 2021, cancelling the registration of JAGPA. The party later filed a writ petition with the High Court, challenging the decision of the EC.
The High Court after holding hearing on the matter, issued a rule, asking authorities concerned as to why the EC decision shall not be declared illegal.
