BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that people smell something fishy in the attempt to delay the national election by talking about reforms.
Stating that some of the advisors have a desire to stay in power, he said, "If you want to do politics, leave your post, form a party and run for office, we will accept it. If you form a new party, you cannot do it while in power."
Strongly criticizing the talk of holding local government elections before the national election, Mirza Fakhrul said, "We are not against reforms, wherever minimum reforms are needed. But, please hold elections quickly. However, the people of the country will not accept local government elections before the national election."
Mirza Fakhrul said this in his speech as the chief guest at a rally organized by the Jessore district BNP on Tuesday afternoon.
The rally was organized at Jessore Town Hall Ground demanding that the prices of daily necessities be kept tolerable, the law and order situation improved, an election roadmap be announced for a speedy transition to democracy, and various conspiracies of the fallen fascism be prevented.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir criticized the increase in the prices of daily necessities and the deterioration of the law and order situation and said that fascists' accomplices are sitting everywhere. That is why even if the fascists flee, the prices of goods are not decreasing; people are not getting safety, and the police are not able to work.
“Dr. Yunus is the pride of the country; people all over the world respect him. He has received the Nobel Prize, we also respect him,” said Mirza Fakhrul, 'We were assured that he would arrange an election soon after he took office. We are still optimistic. The sooner the election is held, the sooner peace will be established, and the prices of daily necessities will decrease.”
Regarding the local government elections before the national elections, he said, "If we do this, Awami League supporters will rise up in the areas, creating chaos."
Mirza Fakhrul said, "We don't want to create division and conflict. Don't use any tricks. The people of this country want national elections first, and then local government elections."
