BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the movement will continue until the water of Teesta comes.
He said, "Today's demand is a demand of our lives. It is a fair demand of international justice. When rivers flow through different countries, there is coordination and management of all countries to manage them. Today's management has failed. The demand is to bring back all the capacities of the management. The water of the Teesta River is a fair demand of the people of Bangladesh. This demand must be met."
Amir Khasru said this in his speech as the chief guest at the sit-in program of the Teesta River Protection Movement Committee located at Thetrai Pakar in Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday afternoon.
He said, "We have seen that whenever the demand for Teesta comes, it is postponed. However, seven agreements have been made regarding the Feni river. India is benefiting from it. But where Bangladesh is supposed to get water, it has been postponed and turned into a desert. The struggles to save people's lives around the Teesta River, biodiversity and culture have been destroyed there.”
Amir Khasru said, “Due to the lack of water in the Teesta River, production of of rice and wheat has been shrunk by 1.5 million tons. The effects of climate change have begun. This call by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has touched the hearts of the people of Bangladesh. The movement will continue until water comes. Wake up, let's save Teesta!”
He said, “The implementation of any demand is not possible without the support of the people. BNP has started this movement with the support of the people. BNP has been able to build up the support of the people, which will be useful for us in the future.”
