BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday has said that nothing can be achieved without fighting and will bring Teesta water from India by fighting.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a 48-hour sit-in program demanding the protection of Teesta and implementation of the master plan at Char Point adjacent to Teesta Railway Bridge in Rangpur and Lalmonirhat.
Mirza Fakhrul said that Awami League has sold Bangladesh in 15 years but has not been able to bring a single drop of Teesta water. Bangladesh has 54 rivers with India, and they have built dams on each of them. On one hand, India does not give us water, on the other hand, they have installed Bangladesh's enemy Hasina.
Under the slogan 'Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachai', the 'Tista River Protection Movement Committee' is holding rallies, marches and cultural performances at 11 points in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Gaibandha districts on Monday. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the 48-hour program.
Stating that the interim government calls itself a neutral government, Mirza Fakhrul said that they should ask India for its fair share of Teesta water.
He said, “Hurry up and hold elections. The people have not been able to vote for many years. Therefore, the people want to send their representatives to the parliament and have their demands implemented through them.”
Mirza Fakhrul also said, “We want to see India as a friend, but we have to give it a fair share of fair waters. We have to stop shooting and killing our citizens on the border.”
