The tyrant Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5 last year due to the mass uprising of students and the mass people. She has been staying in India since then. Dhaka has sent a letter to Delhi to repatriate Sheikh Hasina. However, Delhi has not said anything clearly about sending Sheikh Hasina back.
Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs sent the necessary documents to send Sheikh Hasina back. No reaction from India has been observed in this regard. However, several influential political figures in India have raised questions at various times over Sheikh Hasina is staying in India. They have also demanded that she be sent back to Bangladesh.
In the meantime, India's influential media outlet India Today has conducted a survey titled 'India Today Mode of the North-East'.
The survey asked about people’s opinion about Indian government’s granting asylum to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The survey was conducted among the citizens of 8 northeastern states of India this February.
The results of the survey were shared by India Today NE on its verified X handle. The survey asked citizens to give their opinions on three main options. It was found that 23 percent of respondents voted in favor of the opinion that asked ‘She is an ally of India, and it is okay to give her asylum’. 37.6 percent voted against it.
55 percent voted in favor of the opinion that asked ‘in the current situation, she should be sent back to improve India’s relations with Bangladesh’; 21.1 percent voted against it.
16 percent voted in favor of the opinion that asked ‘She should not be sent back to Bangladesh, but can be asked to go to another country,’ while 29.1 percent voted against it.
The most significant thing here is that 55 percent of respondents among the citizens of the northeastern region of India voted in favor of sending Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.
